To THE TROOPERS: It appears Gasparilla was a rousing success. Everyone had enough to eat…..and DRINK! Thanks to everyone who helped with Bruncharilla and Parade preparation. On a sad note, many of you are aware of Sant’ Yago’s ruling that we are suspended from the Knight Parade for this parade and next. In spite of the evidence and our multiple appeals, they are standing by their decision. We feel it is an injustice to punish a Krewe for the acts of a few, but as the saying goes it is what it is. We are in the process of organizing a party at a place to be determined on the night of the parade, which is February 12th. Stay tuned. On a happy note, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade is scheduled for Saturday March 12th, 2011 at 8:00PM. We will muster at Tommy’s at 5:30PM and the bus will take us to the parade route from 6:00 on. This is a member guest parade. On a happy happy note, the Krewe will participate in the St. Petersburg Honda Grand Prix Parade on Thursday March 24th, at 7:00PM. Details will follow. THE GENERALS. |
Honda Grand Prix Illuminated Night Parade!

Dear Krewe,
The Suncoasters of St. Petersburg invite you to join us for the
Honda Grand Prix Illuminated Night Parade! Thursday - March 24, 2011 at 7:00 p.m.
Once again, the Annual Illuminated Night Parade will kick off the Honda Grand Prix race weekend in downtown St. Petersburg!
The parade will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Central Avenue and proceed along St. Petersburg's beautiful waterfront ending in front of the Renaissance Vinoy.
Marching through downtown and along the beautiful waterfront, this year's parade will feature our very own 750-member Second Time Arounders Marching Band, floats, krewes, neighborhood associations, and, of course, many of the Grand Prix drivers in their show cars.
A Mayor's Trophy will be awarded to the best Krewe! And, a special VIP area will be set aside for all Krewe members to come and enjoy the live music and fireworks at the Party in the Park immediately following the parade in North Straub.
A parade application is enclosed. Additional applications and a complete list of rules and regulations area also available on our website at festivalofstates.com. Completed applications should be returned as soon as possible, but no later than February 15, 2011.

Greetings Troopers! Another Gasparilla season is upon us and we are looking forward to lots of fun. Coronation Cocktail Party To kick things off, we are planning a member/significant other festive cocktail party at General Dick & Diane Kirchen’s house on Saturday January 8, 2011 starting at 7:00PM. We will be offering open bar and heavy hors d’oeuvres as well as entertainment. At the party, we will introduce our royalty for the upcoming year. Dress for this event is coat & tie for the men and cocktail dresses for the ladies. Opening of the Barn Party The opening of the barn party will be held at Precision Rigging (same as in years past) on Saturday January 15, 2011 starting at 12 noon and ending at 3:00PM. Beer and soft drinks will be available as well as chili hot dogs. Members bring your guests and/or prospective members along. Bruncharilla/Gasparilla Bruncharilla will once again be held at General Dick & Diane Kirchen’s house. The brunch starts at 9:00AM. The first bus will arrive at 10:30 and will leave for the staging area at around 10:45. The parade starts at 2:00PM. Member Recruitment Bonus Any member who brings in a new paid member will save $100 on their next renewal bill. Any member who brings in 2 new paid members will save $200 on their next renewal bill. Any member who brings in 3 new paid members will not pay any due on their next renewal. How’s that for incentive! Special Announcement The Krewe is pleased to report that membership is now open to spouses. Spouses may become paying members and participate in all Krewe activities. New Uniform Design Since we envision more female members in light of the above announcement, we are in the process of designing a new costume for our female members. Anyone with suggestions may submit them to Diane Kirchen who will form a design committee. You can reach her at (813) 835-5034. Bleacher Seat Tickets The Krewe is no longer reserving the usual bleacher section. Last parade resulted in less that half the tickets being sold. The difference was paid out of General Kirchen’s personal funds. Tickets may be purchased directly from the Gasparilla web site. |
